Formation of Albanian Sociological Association

Albania is a secular parliamentary republic in Eastern Europe with a population of nearly 3 million people. The sociological association in Albania is named Shoqata Sociologjike Shqiptare (SHSSH or SSS) in Albanian or English as Albanian Sociological Association (ALBSA).

The Constituent Assembly authorized the Albanian Sociological Association’s Statute in Tirana on November 21, 2006, when the organization was founded as the Albanian Institute of Sociology (AIS). It was re-examined during the restructuring process, renamed the Albanian Sociological Association, and approved by the Fifth Assembly on November 22, 2013, held in Durrs.

The mission of the Albanian Sociological Association

ALBSA/SHSSH/SSS aims to project Albanian sociology and social science academics who work in the field, independent of their scientific backgrounds and political or ideological opinions.

Primary objectives of the Albanian Sociological Association

Studies and scientific activities, presentations, seminars, conferences, panel discussions, lectures, training courses, scientific cooperation with public and non-public universities, Albanian and foreign institutions, associations, and institutions; publication of scientific books and periodicals are among the objectives of the ALBSA.

Establishment Structure of ALBSA

Albanian Sociological Association is a non-governmental and non-profit organization with membership open to nationals of Albania. It was incorporated in compliance with the Civil Code and the Law on Non-Profit Organizations of Albania.

Institute of Sociology

In collaboration with the Albanian Sociological Association, the Institute of Sociology (IS) is established as a research facility. A Board of Directors governs the Institute of Sociology, founded by special regulations.

International Outreach

The International Sociological Association (ISA), the European Sociological Association (ESA), and the Balkan Sociological Forum all have the Albanian Sociological Association as a regular and collective member (BSF).

ALBSA Membership

Membership in the Albanian Sociological Association is available to anybody who works in, creates, teaches, or studies sociology or related fields, regardless of personal convictions, political affiliation, gender, religion, ethnicity, wealth, or other factors. Individuals or groups may join the Albanian Sociological Association. They might be full or correspondent members.

Headquarters of ALBSA

The Albanian Sociological Association’s headquarters are located at the Rr. Abdyl Frasheri Pall in Tirana.

Albanian Sociological Association Journal

The Albanian Institute of Sociology, affiliated with the Albanian Sociological Association, publishes the journal “Social Studies.” It was founded in September 1997 as an international scientific magazine and has been published consistently since 1998.

The journal “Social Studies” is published four times a year, is edited by the worldwide publishing board, and published by ISSN. “Social Studies” is an international bilingual publication that publishes papers in both Albanian and English.
