About Paraguayan Sociological Association (APS) and Paraguayan Sociological Society (SPS)

There are two national level associations in Paraguay named Sociedad Paraguaya de Sociología which is also called Paraguayan Sociological Society (SPS) and Asociación Paraguaya de Sociología which is also called Paraguayan Sociological Association (APS) that is registered with ISA.

History of APS 

APS is a national non-profit civil body created in Asuncion on December 28, 2019, to promote sociology throughout the country. APS aspires to bring together social science professionals and researchers to contribute to society’s progress and well-being.

Purpose of APS

  • APS promotes the responsible practice of sociology and sociological studies in Paraguay.
  • APS has expertise and experience in formulating, developing, and evaluating public policies and social intervention, conveying relevant and essential research findings.
  • APS focuses on producing knowledge, organizing conferences, symposiums, and other academic activities, and editing and publishing sociological issues of interest to sociology enthusiasts and societal institutions.

Mission of APS

APS seeks the common good via advocacy, collaboration, collaboration, and safeguarding of sociology professionals in Paraguay. APS fosters sociology research, education, and professional practice.

Vision of APS

The goals of APS include the institutionalization of sociology in Paraguay and the progress of research in creating public policies that have a positive social effect.

The APS promotes democratic institutions and the framework that goes along with them in society and works to enhance the profession in terms of its research methods, academic fields, and political-social arenas.

APS Membership

Regular active members, adherent members, and APS honorary members are the three categories of membership in APS.

APS Conference

The association’s first conference, “Sociology in Paraguay: History, Critical Perspective, and Challenges for the Future,” occurred in 2021.

History of Paraguayan Sociological Society

SPS debuted on April 16, 2020, by sociology scholars with a scientific-social perspective who are interested in Paraguayan sociological studies. It is hoped that this collaborative space would bring together subject experts in the field through fostering and enhancing knowledge of Paraguayan sociology.

Mission of SPS

SPS aims to contribute to the country’s, Latin America’s, and the world’s social development. It aims to advance Paraguayan sociology by studying social problems from many perspectives.

Vision of SPS

SPS aims to create a database of scientific knowledge gained from a sociological understanding of society and create a sociological community committed to ethical guidelines and advanced techniques in research practices.
