IUST & ISS Sociology Conference

International Conference

In collaboration with the Indian Sociological Society (ISS), the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Kashmir is hosting an international conference in Pulwama. Indian Sociological Society, a national registered organization member of the International Sociological Association, is the event’s main organizer. The event is planned for September 6 and 7, 2022. “Society, Culture, and Social Change: Kashmir and Beyond” is the conference’s topic.

The mission of the conference

This International Conference aims to bring people from different parts of UT of J&K, India, and other countries together on one platform. The conference’s main purpose is to discuss Kashmiri and Indian society and culture. Conference participants will examine socioeconomic, philosophical, and religious aspects, including examining societies and ethnic communities as well as institutions and traditions. The conference will also pay particular attention to the changes that contemporary forces of change and globalization are causing in society and culture and how these changes are being contested and addressed.

About IUST

Awantipora, a historic town in South Kashmir, is home to the public university known as the Islamic University of Science & Technology. In November 2005, the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislative Assembly passed an act establishing the IUST. The Chancellor of the University is the Honorable Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of J&K. The University is a member of AIU and is accredited by the UGC and AICTE. The university aspires to be a premier institution in the fields of technology, humanities, and social sciences.

The scheduled international conference will emphasize the contemporary social and cultural situation in Kashmir and India and the transformation process.

The executive committee and organizing committee of the event

Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor, Union Territory of J&K, is the chief patron of the conference. Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor of IUST, is the event’s patron. Prof. Abha Chauhan, the president of the Indian Sociological Society, is the convenor of the conference. The organizing secretary of the program is Professor Pirzada Mohmad Amin. The organizing committee members include Prof. Manish K. Verma (Secretary, Indian Sociological Society), Prof. Shruti Tambe (Treasurer, Indian Sociological Society), Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Malik (Dean Academic Affairs, IUST), Professor Shabir Ahamd Bhat (Dean Outreach, IUST), Professor Ayaz Hassan Moon (Dean Research, IUST), and Professor Naseer Iqbal (Registrar, IUST).

Registration Fees for the event

The registration fee for faculty members and academicians is ₹ 4000. The registration fee for scholars is ₹ 2500, for students ₹ 1500, and online presentation fees are ₹ 1000. 

The deadline for abstract submission is 31st July 2022.
