Formation of Association of Sociologists and Anthropologists of Benin (ASAB)

The Republic of Benin is a West African country with a population of 11.7 million. The official language of Benin is French, and the national-level sociological association is named Association des Sociologues et Anthropologues du Bénin(ASAB)/ Association of Sociologists and Anthropologists of Benin.

The ISA granted membership to the ASAB in 2017. The association is officially registered under number 2016/1761/DEP-LIT/SG-Assoc. as of November 23, 2016. ASAB became a full member of the International Sociological Association on June 13, 2017.

People and institutions associated with the formation include Laboratory for Analysis and Research, Religions, Spaces and Development (LARRED), and Dodji Amouzouvi.

In today’s Benin society, the development and confirmation of the voice of scholars in sociology and anthropology are critical.

Understanding social mutations are required for successful transformation in the growth of a country, and this association is designed to achieve that goal.
