Other critiques suggest that the pursuit of standardized methods can introduce artificial frameworks into data collection, potentially distorting the results. Furthermore, there is a concern that standardisation might impose veiled coercion as proponents of differing procedures compete for supremacy. Sociologists of science also note that in real-world research, discretionary assessments are often required, meaning standardization cannot entirely eliminate the influence of individual researchers or specific social contexts on data collection.
