Hall-Jones Scale Definition
The Hall-Jones scale is a classification method designed to group occupations into seven primary categories, establishing a hierarchy based on social status and skill level. This system positions professionals and senior managers at the upper end of the scale, contrasting them with unskilled manual workers situated at the bottom.
Application and Modification
This original framework was adapted for sociological analysis, notably by Goldthorpe, who employed a modified version of the scale in his seminal Oxford mobility study to examine occupational movement.
