Domestication Definition

Domestication is one of the ideological means by which oppositional subcultures are neutralized in capitalist society. The apparent “threat” a subculture poses is defused by making its style seem “normal” — absorbing it into the mainstream until it no longer challenges anything. The process has been captured in the phrase “otherness is reduced to sameness.”
