Displacement Effect Definition
The displacement effect is the notion that television has supplanted other forms of entertainment and activity to become a central part of many people’s lives. As time and attention are absorbed by television viewing, the pursuits it replaces — from other leisure activities to social interaction — are correspondingly displaced.
