Comprador Definition

Comprador is a Portuguese term, literally meaning “buyer,” originally used for the chief indigenous agent employed by foreign trading houses on the China coast.

The Comprador Bourgeoisie

By extension, “comprador bourgeoisie” designates a social class judged to be compliant with foreign interests and indifferent to developing the national economy. It is usually contrasted with the “national bourgeoisie,” the class considered to possess genuine potential for national economic development.
