Common Values Definition
Common values refer to the shared set of opinions or beliefs that individuals within a society hold regarding the proper way of living and appropriate behaviour. The existence of these shared standards is fundamental for social persistence, as societies require a minimum level of consensus on conduct to function effectively. Where this consensus breaks down or common values are absent, conflict is likely to arise; while some degree of conflict may be necessary to prevent societal ossification, the presence of shared values ensures the continuation and stability of the society itself.
