Disempowerment Definition

Disempowerment is the process by which marginal groups in society are robbed of the ability to influence decisions, as a result of control exercised by the powerful. It may operate formally, through legislation, or informally, through “discourses of derision” that belittle and delegitimize a group and so strip it of the standing needed to be heard.
