Cooptation describes a situation where two or more distinct organisations are linked through shared individuals who hold directorships in each entity. While these organisations may lack any formal, official relationship, sociologists suggest that the existence of multi-directorships implies the presence of informal contacts. These informal connections can facilitate the coordination of activities across the spheres of operation of the involved organisations.
