History of Lithuanian Sociological Association (LSD)

LSD stands for Lietuvos sociologų draugijos, the Lithuanian name for the 1996 established Lithuanian Sociological Association. To address the requirements of current society, LSA reformed the organization in 2010 with a focus on the growth of sociology programs and research.

Mission and Activities of LSD

  • In associations, organizations, and educational institutions on a national and international scale, LSD advocates the interests of sociologists from Lithuania.
  • LSD wants to provide suggestions for advancements in Lithuanian sociology research and study.
  • LSD intends to improve collaboration with like-minded entities engaged in sociology studies and research in Lithuania.
  • In its societal research and studies about the nation, LSD participates in the public activities of Lithuanian socio-scientific policy and further supports the diffusion of information about sociology. LSD and the Lithuanian education system
  • LSA emphasized the necessity for a modern educational strategy in Lithuania together with other institutes of social sciences. To carry out this proclamation, the Lithuanian Movement for the Humanities and Social Sciences debuted in 2017. It brought together fourteen academic organizations to encourage their involvement in higher education and scientific reform in Lithuania.

Sociology, Thought, and Action

The “Sociology, Thought and Action” Journal first appeared in 1997 and is now published in association with the LSD, Centre for Social Change Studies at Klaipda University, and the Department of Sociology at Vilnius University.

It is an academic publication that focuses on Lithuanian society as it critically examines changes in modern society and culture, the growth of social theory, and the self-perception of transforming sociology.

Philosophy and Sociology Journal

Philosophy and Sociology Journal, published by the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, has released two issues every year since 1990.

Lithuanian Social Development Periodical

Since 2012, the Institute of Sociology of the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences has published the peer-reviewed journal “Lithuanian Social Development” once a year for the sociological and societal assessment of the social dynamics in Lithuania.
