Definition of Reverse Trash Talking

Reverse trash talking is a kind of trash talk in which a person cannot say anything bad essentially. It is done by boosting a person’s attributes, and behavior by using a rough tone. In trash-talking arrogant and offensive comments are made to demoralize opponents. Reverse trash-talking is done more nicely by weirdly praising a person.

Sociological Explanation

It is a tactic for complimenting people on traits they possess that they find admirable while coming off as insincere oneself. They won’t believe the speaker, and others will even begin to doubt their own perceptions of their own worth and ability. It also involves repeating the opponent’s phrasing of words in the same way. It refers to a method of applying factual data and being completely annoying as well at the same time. Sports personalities and celebrities are the main people involved in doing it.

Example

In a normal tone, we can complement a person by saying, ‘you are wearing an amazing suit.’ In reverse trash talk, you will say the same in a rugged and rough voice.

All-time WWE superstar John Cena has explained this term in The Late Late Show with James Corden.
